Comprehensive Investment Review
Investment Advisor, Investment Consultant, Investment Manager, Financial Advisor, Financial Planner, Financial Consultant, Low Cost, Discount, Low Fees, Low ExpensesA Comprehensive Investment Review is one of the two primary services provided by Cratus Capital. For every client we provide a thorough review of their Investment Policy Statement, Plan or Program Design, Asset Allocation, Individual Investment Managers and Funds, Custodian and other service providers. We make recommendations for changes to any parts of the Investment Plan or Program. This can be done on a one time project basis for a flat fee. It can also be done as the first stage in the Investment Consulting Process as the client’s primary Investment Consultant.

The Comprehensive Review provides an audit on the current Investment Plan or Program. It provides a fresh look at all aspects of the Investment Plan. We review the current Investment Policy Statement and determine if the investments in the overall portfolio are meeting the goals and objectives of the Plan.

We also determine if the investment portfolio is within the guidelines of the Investment Policy Statement and is not violating any of the restrictions set forth in this Statement. Are the current investments suitable and adequate for the client? We also look at the risks of the Plan and highlight any concerns regarding the risk parameters. If there is no current Investment Policy Statement, Cratus Capital will help create one for the client.

As part of the Review we analyze the overall costs of the Plan. Is the client paying too much in custodian fees or expenses to any service provider? Is the client paying too much in investment management fees, marketing fees or other expenses? Cratus will make recommendations on ways to cut costs in the Investment Plan without losing return potential.

"At Cratus Capital we pride ourselves on finding the ‘best in class’ investment managers and funds for our clients."

One of the most important parts of the Investment Review is a determination of whether the client is currently invested in ‘best in class’ investment vehicles. Many Investment Plans and Programs have a limited selection of investment funds or managers which may be laggards or underperformers in their respective asset categories. At Cratus Capital we pride ourselves on finding the 'best in class' investment managers and funds for our clients.

We have a distinct advantage in this area due to our extensive and successful background in investment manager due diligence, research and evaluation.

Mr. Johnedis has an edge in gathering information from investment funds and managers due to his 20 years of experience as a portfolio manager and the huge network of investment managers which have been developed at Cratus Capital. Cratus performs detailed investment evaluations and reports. We conduct onsite visits with all of their investment managers and meet directly with the key decision makers on the investment team.

The Review also includes a diversification test to make certain that the assets of the Plan are well diversified. For example, a 401K retirement plan may only have one large cap growth fund in its fund line-up. This may not be enough to cover this asset category. It would be possible to add a fund as an option to employees. Or, a new fund could be created which would be the large cap growth fund that would include a combination of several funds in this category. It is important that the Plan have exposure to all asset categories. It may be necessary to include some new asset classes that are currently absent from the Plan. Many plans do not have investment vehicles like precious metal funds, which tend to perform well during down markets. Real estate and other alternative investments can also help diversify the assets in the Plan and generally have low correlation with the primaryr asset classes. At Cratus Capital, we have a wide universe of ‘best in class’ investment vehicles covering all asset categories and investment styles. We have extensive experience in every segment of the investment markets.

Another part of the Investment Review would be to look at the custodian and other service providers of the Plan. In this part of the Review, we are looking at the quality of service, the fees and all hidden costs associated with these providers, limitations or restrictions on the custodian or service provider, timeliness of reporting and scope of services. Some custodians do not provide accurate pricing mechanisms for less liquid securities. Some service providers do not provide comprehensive reports or attribution analysis. At Cratus, we have a vast network of custodians and service providers we have known for years. Again, we assist our clients in finding the ‘best in class’ custodians and service providers.

We provide a formal written report that covers all aspects of the Comprehensive Investment Review. This includes a summary analysis, recommendations and suggestions for improvements in the Plan and highlights of all risks and concerns in the current Plan. The Review will also provide detailed information and analyses on current and prospective investment managers and funds. It will include comparative and peer analysis, asset allocation analysis and performance attribution analysis. This independent Review is an excellent mechanism for a client to begin to make the necessary changes in their Investment Plan or Program. At the same time it will help them save costs and improve investment performance while minimizing risks.
